Schleese Saddles is asking for help in locating seven stolen saddles.
Two of the company’s employees were driving home to their Ontario base from a show in Virginia and made a stop to see clients just outside Niagara Falls.
They spent the night at a Radisson hotel and when they awoke, found that their truck and trailer were gone. Video surveillance showed two men getting out of an SUV in the early morning hours. They drove off about 10 minutes later with the truck and trailer.
“The police said that a vehicle gets stolen almost every day,” said Sabine Schleese, director of corporate affairs for the company, who added that stolen vehicles are sometimes taken to nearby Canadian Indian reservations, and the local police don’t have jurisdiction over those areas.
The trailer was found, stripped, by police on a local reservation last week, but the truck is still missing and will likely never be found. It contained about $2,000 worth of personal items.
“It’s so ironic because it has Schleese written all over it. It’s not like it’s an inconspicuous vehicle,” said Schleese.
The company received an insurance payout for the truck and has since replaced it, but they are still on the hunt for their saddles.
