The German equestrian federation announced on Aug. 21 that the reigning Olympic and World Games individual gold medalist horse Sam FBW will not compete at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
The press release states that Sam FBW “has inflammation in one front hoof” that prevents him from competing in Normandy, France, next week.
On Aug. 20, Sam FBW worked well in team training at the Bonn Rodderberg training center in Wachtberg-Niederbachem, Germany, but on the morning of Aug. 21 he showed lameness due to a hoof problem.

“It would have been really nice to compete with Sam. Fortunately, it is nothing serious, but the World Games aren’t possible,” said Jung.
The rider will still be able to compete on the German team, however, on his second horse, the 9-year-old FischerRocana FST.
