Loxahatchee, FL (July 27, 2011) – Reid & Associates Veterinary Practice will help horse owners battle the economy by hosting their third annual free rabies vaccination event for the community. The “drive by” event is open to local pet owners and offers free rabies vaccinations for horses. The Vaccine Clinic will take place Saturday, August 20, from 9 am to 3 pm.
Horse owners are encouraged to trailer their horses to the clinic for vaccines, and to be weighed, and then return later for a raffle at the veterinarian office located on F Road in Loxahatchee. Many sponsors have stepped forward and donated great prizes for the raffle. Reid & Associates veterinarians taking part in the Vaccine Clinic include Dr. Erin Newkirk, Dr. Raul Casas-Doltz, Dr. Kate LeVasseur and Dr. Peter Clemetts.
The annual event began as the brainchild of Reid & Associates Office Manager, Cheryl Marlowe, who worried that horse owners might be forced to cut out vaccinations due to tough economic times. “It is a way for us to give back to the community”, said Jan Zenobia, clinic receptionist. The local community responded with enthusiasm last year, bringing in 83 horses.

“It is really great service that Reid & Associates performs for the community every year,” said Ellen Alvarez, of Loxahatchee Groves, who brought her horses to the event last year for vaccines. “It’s a wonderful atmosphere when you drive in with your trailer. I definitely plan on bringing my horses again and want to thank Reid & Associates in advance for offering the Vaccine Clinic.”
In addition to the free rabies vaccination, discount pricing will be available for Eastern & Western encephalomyelitis (EEE), West Nile Virus (WNV), Tetanus, Influenza, and Rhinopneumonitis vaccines. Reid & Associates is a full service equine hospital and referral center established in 1995 by Dr. Byron Reid. Located on five acres in the heart of horse country in Palm Beach County, the clinic building houses the business offices, pharmacy, surgery, two recovery/induction rooms, central supply, laboratory, surgical supply, radiography and the clinic hall or exam room. The hospital has a five-stall barn with a nurse’s station and an apartment for the on-premise 24-hour veterinarian on the south side and a seven-stall barn on the north side.
