Liz Riley Receives Yellow Card At Jersey Fresh Three-Day Event

Liz Riley, who had horses competing in the CCI*** and CCI** at the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event, received a yellow card from the ground jury for leaving whip marks on both mounts at the conclusion of cross-country.

Jersey Fresh was held May 6-10 in Allentown, N.J., and Riley finished 18th in the two-star with Renaissance. She withdrew It’s The Truth from the three-star before show jumping.

“I’ve used that whip forever, and it’s never left a mark on my horses. I was just thinking the whip was broken,” said Riley, of Charlottesville, Va. “I never hit my horses hard enough for a mark to show up on them. I threw out that whip after the event. The ground jury said I didn’t hit the horse hard, but since I left a mark, they had to say something, which I totally understand.”
