Lion King Rules In NAL Adult Hunter Final

Lindsey Mohr was a bit nervous before the NAL Adult Hunter Finals on Oct. 17.  “I was sitting up in the stands, shaking,” she said. “But then once I got on, I was fine and didn’t think about it.”

Her rounds belied her nerves, as she rode Lion King to two smooth trips, scoring an 85 and an 86, to win.  The victory was a repeat of their NAL title in 2004.

Lion King rules in the three-foot divisions.  Just two weeks before, Lindsey’s younger sister, Kristen, rode him to win the Taylor Harris National Children’s Medal at the Capital Challenge (Md.).  “He’s just the best.  He gets treated like a prince at home,” Lindsey said of the flashy chestnut gelding.  They Mohrs train with Stacia Madden at Beacon Hill, but keep Lion King at home in Long Valley, N.J.

Lindsey, 19, is a sophomore at Centenary College and rides in the open division on their IHSA team.  In fact, she was going to follow up her Harrisburg appearance with an IHSA show the next day.

In the amateur-owner hunters, Grace Stuntz won the first class of the 18-35 division on Saving Grace, while Tracy Scheriff claimed the second class on Lavari.  Becky Gochman won the first class of the 36 & over division on her Goldiva, but Susan Baker and Tell Call claimed the second class.
