Hannah Sue Burnett Leads U.S. Charge As Bettina Hoy Dominates Dressage At Aachen CIC

She's not even named to the German team for the CICO*** team competition at the Aachen CHIO, but Bettina Hoy is making her presence known with some stunning dressage tests to lead after the first phase.

Aachen, Germany—July 15  

She’s not even named to the German team for the CICO*** team competition at the Aachen CHIO, but Bettina Hoy is making her presence known with some stunning dressage tests to lead after the first phase.

Hoy rode Seigneur Medicott to the lead in dressage with a score of 31.0, more than 4 points ahead of second-placed Jonelle Price of New Zealand on Faerie Diamond (35.3). Hoy then returned to capture third place with Designer 10 (36.70).

The big news is that the Australian team is in the lead of the team competition, as Christopher Burton on Nobilis 18, Shane Rose on CP Qualified, Samantha Birch on Hunter Valley II and Sonja Johnson on Parkiarrup Illisict Liaison rode to a combined score of 127.8 and the lead over Germany and New Zealand.

The U.S. team is sitting in fifth after the dressage, as Hannah Sue Burnett led the way with Harbour Pilot (45.6). Matt Brown on Super Socks BCF (48.6) and Lauren Kieffer on Landmark’s Monte Carlo (48.9) helped earn a 143.1 total score, while Phillip Dutton’s test on Indian Mill (50.0) was the drop score.

Individually, Burnett and Harbor Pilot were in 17th after dressage, with Brown and Super Socks BCF in 23rd. Kieffer and Landmark’s Monte Carlo sit in 26th, while Dutton lies 28th with Indian Mill.

Two-time Rolex Kentucky CCI**** winner and reigning Olympic and World Equestrian Games gold medalist Michael Jung sits in 10th place after dressage with his veteran La Bisothetique Sam FBW; they’re also serving on the German team that’s in second with Ingrid Klimke (SAP Escada FRH, 11th), Andreas Ostholt (So Is Et, 13th) and Dirk Schrade (Hop And Skip, 20th).

Buoyed by Jonelle Price’s second-placed test of 35.3 on Faerie Diamond, the New Zealand team stands third.
