Fire Destroys Barn At Morven Park

A fire destroyed a barn at the Morven Park International Equestrian Center in Leesburg, Va., on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 13. Firefighters were on the scene quickly to put out the blaze and contain it to just the one barn.

No horses were in the barn at the time, and Morven Park reported no injuries or losses of life, either animal or human.

“It was a total loss. Luckily no one was near the barn at the time, and the barn was empty,” said Frank Milligan, executive director of Morven Park.

The fire was reported around 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening by a number of people who live on or around the property. An investigation has yet to take place, as the fire left the remains of the barn smoldering into mid-day Wednesday. Once the investigation takes place, the board will decide whether or not to rebuild the barn.

“It’s really too early to tell,” Milligan said. “The clean-up can’t happen until the investigation is over.”
