Driving to Falsterbo CDI5*

Dear Rita,

W and I are off to Falsterbo! Falsterbo is a small resort community at the southern tip of Sweden, and this small village hosts an international dressage and jumping show every year. The U.S. Jumping Team will be there, and I will compete for the U.S. in the CDI5*.

The trip to Falsterbo is also an exciting one. I will drive to the north of Germany, put the truck on a ferry, cross to southern Denmark, drive to Copenhagen and then cross the bridge toward Malmo in Sweden. Falsterbo is a stone’s throw from Malmo.

Dear Rita,

Maximus and I started in Falsterbo in 2007 and had quite a successful show there. Up until this year, the dressage at Falsterbo was always held in CDIO format—team competition—with all three tests contested by the competitors who qualify. This year, the format is CDI5* and is sponsored by the Exquis Dressage Masters. Very tough competition, Rita. I am honored to get the invitation.

I’ll video as much of the trip as possible and give you an overview of the show when I arrive. The Grand Prix is on Thursday, and I plan to ride the Special on Friday with Winyamaro. The level of this competition is still a bit of a reach for W, so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Meanwhile, my plans to go to Gladstone are taking some shape and form. Tentatively I am leaving Germany on the 21st with one/two horse(s). Some things are still to be decided! More on that soon.

I’m Catherine Haddad, and I’m sayin it like it is from Falsterbo, Sweden.

Training Tip of the Day: Avoid big stadiums and loud horse shows with a developing horse until you know him well enough to ride him through an exciting atmosphere. When you are confident, go for it, but know that you might have some distractions to deal with.
