A lifelong horsewoman and artist, Barbie Sonnett's career in sculpting began in the 1970s when she and her husband Steve bought their Maplewood Farm in Brandywine, Md. As she began to raise two sons and numerous homebred Thoroughbreds, Sonnett was introduced to foxhunting with the Marlboro Hunt (Md.) and to sculpting in clay.

Both turned into passions that combined to create her trademark whimsical fox sculptures, the primary subjects of her creations.
