Competitors Prepare For World Dressage Masters In Wellington

Top dressage stars Steffen Peters and Ravel, Anky van Grunsven and Salinero and Isabell Werth and Satchmo joined 15 other horse-and-rider combinations on Monday to prepare for the Exquis World Dressage Masters Palm Beach this week that kicks off the 2010 lineup of the globe's richest dressage competitions.

Top dressage stars Steffen Peters and Ravel, Anky van Grunsven and Salinero and Isabell Werth and Satchmo joined 15 other horse-and-rider combinations on Monday to prepare for the Exquis World Dressage Masters Palm Beach this week that kicks off the 2010 lineup of the globe’s richest dressage competitions.

Van Grunsven watched her first ever polo game on Sunday at the International Polo Club Palm Beach. Werth worked Satchmo at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center while her sister, Claudia, wheeled her son, Frederik, nearby, and Steffen Peters visited the South Florida Fair after a day of teaching.

The top U.S., Dutch and German pairs are among 18 combinations who will battle for total prize money of $138,000 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The World Dressage Masters is the featured event of the fourth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Competition begins with the $13,800 Grand Prix at 1 p.m. and continues on Saturday with the $41,400 Grand Prix Special at 1 p.m. followed by the featured event—the $82,800 Grand Prix freestyle under the lights, at 7 p.m.
