The Challenge Of The Americas

I want to write about the freestyles at the Masters competition, but I don't think I can stand one more minute without sharing these photos!

Tres was an absolute star at the Challenge of the Americas quadrille this weekend, as were all of his Team USA teammates! They won the competition in a close race with Team International. The whole event raised a ton of money for breast cancer research, which is the whole point, of course.

But the best part, hands-down, was Tres' MANE.

Tres was an absolute star at the Challenge of the Americas quadrille this weekend, as were all of his Team USA teammates! They won the competition in a close race with Team International. The whole event raised a ton of money for breast cancer research, which is the whole point, of course.

But the best part, hands-down, was Tres’ MANE.

Pam said the team had an Americana theme, and she suggested I come up with some way to braid him with red, white and blue bands. And I looked at Tres’ mane, and saw something even more outlandish, er, I mean, awesome: Could I make his mane look like an American Flag?

Why yes, yes I could.

It was a team effort, sewing pom poms onto heavy thread, perfecting the lattice braid. And my poor pre-arthritic fingers may never be the same. But the result was fairly spectacular, if I may be so bold.

The whole evening was great, and for a GREAT cause. Enjoy the photos and video!
