Cadiz Euthanized After Fall At Fontainebleau Horse Trials

Cadiz, a 15-year-old Spanish-bred gelding ridden by French eventer Donatien Schauly, was euthanized two days after he suffered from a fall on cross-country at the Fontainebleau Horse Trials (France) on March 6.

Schauly was not injured, but Cadiz (El Mesto—Adonna, Nocturn) was euthanized due to “complications related to swelling of the spinal cord,” according to Cavadeos.

Owned by Renaud and Marie Christine de Lauriere, the gelding competed at the 2012 London Olympic Games with French rider Aurelien Kahn. Schauly took over the ride in 2013 and the pair finished second in the Saumur CCI*** (France) last May.

The gelding took some time off to recover from tendinitis last year and Fontainebleau was his first event back.
