Middleburg, VA (May 24, 2011) — Boyd Martin, top-finishing American individual and member of the 4th-placed US Eventing Team at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky as well as The Chronicle of the Horse’s “Horseman of the Year 2010”, has chosen Attwood Equestrian Surfaces to build his arena for his new farm in Cochranville, PA.

“It was an easy choice to work with Attwood,” said Martin. “They have a proven track record of providing the best riding surfaces that are consistently fabulous, no matter what the weather. The plans for the final look of the ring were are brilliant!”

Attwood’s outdoor arena plan ensured that the arena blended well with the natural beauty of the property and the rolling hills. The completed ring, now affectionately known as “Silva’s ring”, is fully contained with perimeter fencing using pressure treated post and board fencing. It keeps the footing neat while providing a place for people to sit and audit without creating distractions while the horses are in training.

Another design feature is the in-base drains that carry the water down, (vertically), accelerating the runoff of water off the top of the surface, allowing Boyd and Silva to train outside even when it’s raining.  It’s this attention to detail that keeps Attwood the first choice for equestrian professionals.

“The footing itself is our Pinnacle formulation, which we installed for Boyd’s good friend, Peter Barry, of Maple Hill Farm in Aiken, South Carolina and Dunham, Quebec,” said Edwin Barron, Vice President of Operations for Attwood. “This is an all-weather, dust-free, non-watering surface. This formulation allows the footing to be tuned with the harrow which is superb for both Dressage and Jumping.”

“We were really excited to work with Boyd and his team to create such a stunning workplace. As with all our clients, we believe in creating that consistently perfect riding surface which benefits the horses, benefits the training. Boyd has already commissioned a second ring as Silva won’t let him in this one!”
