Four-star event rider Boyd Martin underwent surgery this morning, Oct. 25, to repair a broken forearm.
At about 8 a.m. yesterday, Martin was hand-walking one of his young horses who was coming back from an injury. “The horse spooked, and he kind of spun around and kicked him in the arm,” said Martin’s wife, Silva, who was nearby but did not witness the accident. The kick dislocated Boyd’s elbow and broke the radius bone in his forearm.
The timeframe for his recovery is uncertain until after surgery, but Silva is optimistic. “It sounded like from the surgeons that it was a pretty easy procedure, so I’m hoping it won’t be too long,” she said. “It’s probably the best place in your body to break,” she went on. “Knowing my husband, he’ll probably be riding with a cast on!”
