Stats: age 31, West Grove, Pa.
Remington: dk. b. g., 16 hands, 15 years, Hanoverian (Rubenstein I—Weserpalme, Wenzel I), owned by Densey Juvonen.
After placing fifth in the Jersey Fresh CCI*** (N.J.) and sixth in the Fair Hill CCI*** (Md.) in 2009, this pair was 12th at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** and seventh at the Pau CCI**** (France) last year. This spring, they were second in a division of advanced at Pine Top (Ga.) and 13th in a division of advanced at Southern Pines (N.C.).
Jimmy's Prediction: Boyd has impressed me over the last year, not because of his successes, but because he continues to improve. His riding now is far more subtle and sophisticated than what we have seen in years past. I think that William Fox-Pitt’s dressage “halo” will sparkle just a little brighter than Boyd’s halo, and that will keep Boyd from winning Rolex this year. However, Boyd and Remington will give the winners a serious scare, and they will place a close second. As a responsible journalist, I am happy to report that the rumors surrounding Boyd’s head injury are false. On examination, the FEI medical staff determined that a head injury for an Australian is an oxymoron.
