Adequan Shortage Reported

Due to renovations at Luitpold Pharmaceuticals Inc.’s Shirley, N.Y., factory, supplies of Adequan IM, the only polysulfated glycosaminoglycan approved by the Food and Drug Administration and a common joint supplement for sport horses, are expected to be limited over the coming months.

The Luitpold Pharmaceuticals factory in New York is undergoing a significant renovation to meet enhanced quality standards and address FDA observations. This has resulted in the depletion of existing inventories, and the product will be out of stock for a short period of time. As of May 13, SmartPak Equine only has 50 ml multi-dose vials remaining in stock.

Luitpold Pharmaceuticals expects to resume shipments of the 5 ml vials of Adequam IM in early July, followed by the 50 ml vials in August.

For the most recent updates on expected release dates of product, visit the Adequan website or www.nogenericadequan.com. Territory managers will continue to communicate updates to both their veterinary accounts as well as many of the horse owners they meet at Adequan-sponsored events. You can also call the Adequan customer service department at 1-800-458-0163 for the most current information.
